El principio del río Elqui...
Cool desert plant, however, I didn't see the thorns until it was too late.
El otro lado of the dam, looking back from where we came from.
Me on the dam, since you could walk across it from one side to the other.
First we visited the damn there, which holds enough water to sustain the valley in the case of 5 years of drought. After that? Who knows...
¡Bienvienidos al Valle de Elqui!
During our trip to La Serena we took a day trip out east to Elqui Valley, which along with being the heart of the pisco production of Chile (a hard liquor made from grapes), it also has a lot of other redeeming qualities. Although el río Elqui allows life to be sustained there, it very much so has a desert like climate, with sunny days for at least 350 days out of whole year, usually more. We got to do several cool activities, as I will show you later.
